Update from Elders #4
These last couple of weeks have been a little crazy and unmarked territory for sure. But let me assure you of this: God has not moved one iota! As believers we agree with the Psalmist - "He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be shaken. On God my salvation and my glory rest; The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God. Trust in Him all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him, God is a refuge for us." Ps. 62:6-8 These times are good for us because they call upon us to do a heart check...."Where is your hope and trust?" We trust and pray that during these times you are drawn closer to our Lord.
We want you to know that the elders have been in contact with one another daily and we are seeking the Lord in prayer as well as seeking wisdom from medical personnel for decisions on meeting as a body. We understand that this affects our ministry - mainly fellowship and corporate worship. But this is only for a time. This season will soon pass.
Next couple of weeks: Many of you know Gov. Kelly has put a ban on 50 people or more gathering in one place. Therefore in order to comply with the governing officials (Romans 13), all church activities have been canceled for the next couple of weeks, through March 29. The elders will reassess after March 29. But we want to encourage you for the next two weeks on Sunday Morning to join us via live stream @ 10:15am. Pastor Tim will still be preaching. Pastor Kris will be continuing his systematic theology study, but he will be teaching this Wednesday evening @ 7:00pm instead of Sunday night.
Your Giving: Many of you have asked about giving while we are not meeting together. You can mail in your check, or drop by your offering on Fridays when Ruth is in the office.
Serving and Shepherding: There’s no doubt that the coming weeks will be a whirlwind of change and uncertainty. But this presents an opportunity for us to seize the moment to share Christ with the lost and use resources God has given us to minister to one another. We still have phones, email, and all the other social media outlets to visit with one another. We encourage you to use these resources to serve the body at CBC.
We are going to shepherd you through our 5:11 group leaders. For those who are regular attenders of CBC but not a part of 5:11, we have added you to a group temporarily. Why? So we can minister to you while we are unable to corporately gather.
Use Wisdom and Common Sense: Take reasonable action concerning the coronavirus without being unbalanced. Even if the media is overhyping this situation, we want to be salt and light to those around us. We desire to practice Phil. 2:3 “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.”
We realize that many people have different views on the coronavirus and things that are being implemented. We ask that you pray for one another, pray for our president, those under him, governors and local officials, and pray for the elders as we make decisions.
Church is open regular hours: Kris and Tim are here Tuesday through Friday. If you need something or have a question please call. (316) 838-0400
The elders are praying that God would be glorified in all that we do and say during this time.
